Norwegian Cruise Line – originator of Freestyle Cruising where rigid schedules can be tossed
to the winds -- operates a growing fleet sailing to more than 140 ports around the world.
Over the years, NCL has pioneered several on-board firsts including the first seagoing Internet
café (now fleetwide). The line was first to market a nationwide air / sea program combining
cruise, hotel and transfers from more than 150 U.S. and Canadian gateways. NCL – acquired
by Malaysia’s Star Cruises in 2000 after a spirited bidding war with other corporate cruise
leaders -- also was first to deploy a modern ship full-time in the seven-day Hawaiian market.
In Europe, NCL combines innovative itineraries with Freestyle Cruising so guests can enjoy
great cities, food, and entertainment from northern waters of the Baltic Sea on south to the
Mediterranean. In the Caribbean, NCL’s Freestyle Cruising aboard Norwegian Dream makes it
easy to soak up the sun while enjoying azure waters and golden sands.
Quick View
Once known as NCL’s Dreamward, rapid change arrived with advent of the Freestyle Cruising
concept introducing increased entertainment and dining options amid a tasteful pastel décor
atmosphere. With Freestyle Cruising on Dreamward, guests can do everything, or nothing at all,
within the new LifeStyle Program, featuring more art auctions, health and wellness programs,
cooking demonstrations and more – all aimed at challenging minds as well as bodies. NCL picks
the ports for Norwegian Dream, but the rest of the calls are up to passengers.
About Gratuities
With Freestyle Cruising, NCL applies gratuities to shipboard accounts at $10 per guest, per day,
for ages 13 and up, and $5 per day for ages 3-12, and no charge for under age 3. To tip more or
less than guidelines, adjustments can be made at the front desk. Bar drinks and spa services
have “as-you-go” service charges added separately. All Norwegian Dream service personnel on
board receive gratuities from this service charge and there is no need for passengers to worry
about additional tipping.
Disabled Access
Some staterooms aboard Norwegian Dream have wider doorways and baths for wheelchairs, and
others have lights and under-pillow vibrating alarms to accommodate hearing impairments.
Guide dogs are permitted. Many staterooms have refrigerators for storing medications.
Passengers requiring oxygen therapy must supply their own oxygen.
Ship Features
Originally called Dreamward when entering service in 1992 as a sister to Windward, this ship
in 1998 was treated to a stretch conversion with addition of a 130-foot midsection at the
Lloyd Werft Shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany. Resulting is a more spacious ship readily
adapting itself to NCL’s Freestyle Cruising concept. With a jogging track and an emphasis
on athletics at its popular Sports Bar, Norwegian Dream has staterooms designed for comfort,
promenades, and assorted restaurants, bars, and shops.
Staterooms
In addition to a penthouse and an owner’s suite, accommodations in two dozen categories
include both inside cabins and superior inside cabins along with outside cabins, some
with obstructed views, some superior, and some with private balconies. There is also a
penthouse and an owner’s suite.
Stateroom amenities
Cabins have separate sitting areas and are furnished with a safe, hair dryer, and radio and TV.
Upper level categories have mini-refrigerators and concierge service.
