Silver Cloud

Silversea Cruises History

Fort Lauderdale-based Silversea Cruises results from an early 1990s vision in which Rome’s Lefebvre family, former owners of Sitmar Cruises, opted to build and operate a line catering to the cruise industry’s ultra-luxury segment. Silversea -- so-named named to connote champagne and caviar excellence melded with romance float -- launched its first ship, Silver Cloud, in 1994, followed by Silver Wind a year later, and two more similarly luxurious yet larger ships, Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper, in 2000 and 2001 respectively. Purpose-built for pampering, the ships are designed to carry few passengers basking in more space enjoying extreme levels of personalized service, all the while slipping into exotic, often less accessible ports. With Italian officers and a seasoned European staff, hallmarks from the start have been all ocean-view suites, most with private verandas, open seating dining options, and overall emphasis on ambiance targeting the cruising elite. In 2004, Silversea sails more than 140 itinereries with calls to 45 new ports.

Quick View

In early 2004, Silver Cloud wrapped up major refurbishments to mirror 2003 enhancements of sister ship Silver Wind. The all-suite Silver Cloud continues to charm with private teak verandas in some seventy-five percent of accommodations in six categories. All suites have new, elegant furnishings and artwork. Also new: A Wine Bar, similar to those aboard Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper, a Computer Center, and a spiffed up spa. Incorporating larger-ship amenities with a small ship feel, Silver Cloud guests enjoy all-inclusive pricing and luxury brands including Bvlgari, Davidoff and Relais & Chateaux. Programs are tailored to serve discerning world travelers.
